He could find a gaming company near you and apply to work in their Quality Assurance department... (basically, you become a game tester). This is a far easier line of work to make money in the gaming industry in.. the 'tournments for money' route is cutthroat and very competitive - plus it can very much be who you know, not what you know. To get into that kind of gig, you have to attend smaller local game competitions and break in that way... and build up a name for yourself steadily for years. It is in no way a guaranteed way to make money.

The only drawback is that most gaming companies will not hire someone who is not in their mid-20s (the risk of hiring someone too immature, who only wants to play games and not really work). Good luck to him!

Enter tournaments at gaming conventions.

If he's any good, sponsors will pick him up and foot the bill for travel and such.
Other than being a game tester,

the only way to get money for games is to be in tournaments, he can get anything from $100 to $10,000

but a word of warning is that those tournaments are no joke, there are people who breath video games and could beat the game developers if they were given the chanceHow does my son get into playing games for money?
he could play a online game and do nothing buut make in game money, then sell the in game money to companies for real money. its against most online game agreements, but it is widely done.
