I think what you want it Perfect World or Second Life. They are games with an in-game economy whcan can be switched in and out with real world money. In other words if you need more in-game money to buy things you can send them real money to convert to game money. But if you make and sell things, or sell services, in the game and you make a profit.. then you can convert the in-game money to real money and have it sent to you.
I know a person with a shop in Second Life where she designs tshirts for the avatars to wear. She makes some pretty good money at it.
