Um, Resistance 2 is a first person shooter that is kind of similar to call of duty. It is set in the 1950s in an alternate history where some alien-like force has invaded. The online has rankings, perks to unlock and different guns although compared to cod, there isn't as much to unlock. It also takes longer to kill but certainly I would at least consider it.
Also maybe try Killzone 2. I have heard good things about that.Buying some new ps3 games with xmas money?
You can try Socom: Confrontation. I hear it's actually working now. There's also Rainbow six: vegas 2, but that game is over a year old. A lot of people still play it, though.
