Does PC games cost money to play online?

I want to know if Online Multiplayer is free for PC. Can can anyone help?Does PC games cost money to play online?
some do and some don't.

Like WoW, you have to pay monthly to keep an account.

Then theres PC programs that have less glamour and are free.

This is different for all games. Research the games specifically to see if they have a cost for the initial game as well as a reocurring fee of any sort. Most MMOs need monthly payment like WoW and City of Heroes. and MMO like Guild Wars doesnt need constant payment though. As for games you bought ex. being Left 4 Dead 2, a lot fo times you don't have to pay. Again, look at each game before purchasing to see if online play costs money. some games like "bitewars" are for free. While games like wow cost monthly fees (unless you play on private servers).

Multiplayer games can be ANY game. You could even say that the online chess games are multiplayer, and those are free

usually playing online does cost money since companies need to pay for the data transfer and for the server. it may be for free if the game uses heavy advertisements to finance itself.

Depends on what game you asking about, if it is a game like counter strike then it's free but if its World of Warcraft then yes you do have to pay, usually it'll say on the box wether or not a paid or free membership is needed.

Most of the time no. The exception would be MMO (massive multiplayer online) games, which usually require a subscription fee. Examples would be Warcraft and the like.
Actual online games worth playing like ArmA 2 or Battlefield Bad company 2 (out march 5th) are free to play online, WoW and other games like that are games for the pathetic.
Im sure if you search "free games" or whatever kind of games your looking for. But there are ones that cost.
