My boyfriend is going to college to become a video game designer. I am kind of worried about our future financially, together because I don't know anything about this profession. Can anyone give me some information? Like where the big video game industries are located, how much they make, if people can do it from home and make just as much. Ok.. I'm going to give you a straight answer. When I was 16 I started a software company with a programming friend of mine and we made video games and software.



Here's the problem with getting a 2 yr degree or 4 yr degree in game development.



*There's a lot of math involved. Calculus, Trig, Physics, Statistics, etc...

*Employers prefer a Bachelors in Computer Science

*Industries are in Denver, CO / California

*There's a ton of competition - almost everyone wants to make video games.

*Salary:30-45k



Not saying your boyfriend shouldn't pursue his dreams, but, he should be smart about it. If I were him, I would also look into A+ Certification. This is the basic certification needed to become a computer repair technician. This is just incase his plans fall through, or, he's waiting on finding a job.
